Yarns Untangled, located in Kensington Market, is a craft boutique dedicated to carrying a wide selection of the best yarns available, with a special focus on the work of several talented hand-dyers from across Canada. Whether it’s beautiful yarn, high quality equipment, crafting advice, or simply a welcoming community of crafters that you’re looking for, the skilled and knowledgeable team at YU is here and ready to help you find it.
Founders Brenna and Amelia met in early 2013, and soon found that they had a unique ability to collaborate in creating beautiful and unusual products. This skill is perhaps best observed in The Gay Sweater, a campaign for which they designed, spun the yarn for, and knit a full adult-sized sweater made entirely from human hair. Building this sweater taught them quite a few things about working with unique fibres, and proved how easy collaborating with each other was. They discovered that the love of learning new techniques and sharing that knowledge with others was mutual, and the partnership was formed!
It is only logical that the two women would seek a home where they could live, breathe, and cultivate this love, surrounded by gorgeous yarn and the kindred spirits of their friends in the knitting and crochet community. They have called this home Yarns Untangled, and it features a wide variety of classes on knitting, crochet, felting, spinning yarn and more, including the ever popular stitch nights on Wednesday evenings. Anyone is welcome to attend, and if you forgot your project at home, you’ll be set up with a new one in no time!
